Avulsion injuries within the pelvis can occur at six main sites. The Anterior inferior iliac spine (AIIS) avulsion injuries isare one of themthe six main types of pelvic apophyseal avulsion fractures.
Mechanism
The straight head of the rectus femoris muscle muscle originates from from the anterior inferior iliac spine. Forceful AIIS and forceful extension lead lead to an avulsion injury at this point.

The A-PAP radiograph. Oblique as on oblique projections are helpful.
