Ascending auditory pathway

Last revised by Andrew Murphy on 15 Jun 2021

Ascending auditory pathway is the intracranial component of the auditory system. It transmits auditory information collected by the inner ear to the primary auditory cortex in the brain via a number of intermediary pathways and structures.

Summary

Course

The cochlear nucleus receives auditory stimuli from the cochlea via the cochlear nerve and sends information to the bilateral superior olivary complex 1-3

From the superior olivary complexes information is sent to the inferior colliculi via the lateral lemnisci and from there to the medial geniculate bodies before passing up to the primary auditory cortex 1-3
