Blumensaat line, also known as the intercondylar line, is the line drawn along the roof of the intercondylar notch of the femur as seen on lateral radiograph on sagittal view of the knee joint. It
It can been used for:
- indicating
therelative position ofthepatellaas normally this line- normally intersects the lower pole of the patella -
suggestingevaluating for ACL injuryas the normal- normal ACL Blumensaat angle is ≤15° - describing
thecourse of an ACL graft (seeRadiographicevaluation ofanterior cruciate ligamentACL reconstruction) - identifying
thelocation of lateral femoral condyle sulcus, which- should be within10mm10 mm of the line
It may not always be straight and three types have been described 3:

- small hill: ~20%
- large hill: ~45%
