Böhler angle
Updates to Article Attributes
Böhler angle, also written as Bohler angle or Boehler angle, is also called the calcaneal angle or tuber joint angle 1.
Measurement
Böhler angle is the angle between two lines tangent to the calcaneus on the lateral radiograph. These lines are drawn tangent to the anterior and posterior aspects of the superior calcaneus.
Interpretation
The "normal" value for this angle is between 20° to 40°. A value <20° can be seen in calcaneal fractures. However, a mildly decreased Böhler angle may be seen in a normal individual 5 and a normal Böhler angle does not exclude a calcaneal fracture.
History and etymology
It is named after Lorenz Böhler (1885-1973) who was an Austrian surgeon, regarded as the founder of traumatology 4.
