Ganglioneurocytomas are rare variants of extraventricular neurocytomas, themselves an uncommon variant of central neurocytomas (intraventricular).
They are recognized in the current (2016) WHO classification of CNS tumors when an extraventricular neurocytoma demonstrates a distinctive and definite ganglion cell 1.
