The hepatic artery proper or the proper hepatic artery arises from the common hepatic artery, a branch of coeliac trunk.
Gross anatomy
Course
The hepatic artery proper runs anterior to the portal vein and to the left of the common bile duct to form the portal triad. It then terminates by bifurcating into the right and left hepatic arteries before entering the porta hepatitishepatis of the liver.
