Mobile cecum syndrome refers to a symptomatic mobile cecum, manifesting as chronic intermittent right lower quadrant pain and distension.
Epidemiology
It is estimated that a mobile cecum occurs in 10-20% of the population, however, it is usually asymptomatic and thus mobile cecum syndrome is an uncommon diagnosis.
Pathology
Owing to a redundant mesocolon, the cecum is free to twist on itself, thus resulting in an intermittent cecal torsion. There are reported cases of cecal volvulus, bascule and intussusception.
Treatment and prognosis
Treated by laparoscopic cecopexy or cecocolopexy. Concomitant appendectomy is advised.
