The ovarian ligament, ligament of the ovary, or utero-ovarian ligament is one of the supporting ligaments of the ovary and uterus within the female pelvis. It should not be confused with the suspensory ligament of the ovary, which is a separate structure that extends laterally from the ovary and contains the gonadal vessels.
Gross Anatomy
The ligament is a fibromuscular band passing between the layers of the broad ligament. It attaches from the uterine pole of the ovary and inserts onto the lateral aspect of the uterus near the cornu, just inferior to the origin of the uterine tube.
Development
Together with the round ligament of the uterus, it is one of the remnants of the gubernaculum in females.
