The portal venous phase, also called the late portal phase or hepatic phase is a contrast-enhanced CT or MRI series that has the following characteristics:
- liver parenchyma is at its peak enhancement with a density > 50
UHHU 1,2 - portal veins are completely enhanced
- hepatic veins are enhanced
To obtain this phase, the image acquisition should start after intravenous injection of contrast agent with:
- time from injection: 70-90 seconds 3
- time from bolus tracking: 50-70 seconds
Clinical use
The portal venous phase offers the best hepatic enhancement, allowing the detection of:
