The sigmoid plate is variously described as the plate of bone between the jugular bulb and the middle ear cavity (as shown in first image) or more generally as the thin bone separating the sigmoid sinus from adjacent structures (especially mastoid air cells). In the case of the former, the structure is also referred to more specifically as the jugular wall, jugular floor,jugular plate, or jugular plate paries jugularis1,2-3. In the case of the latter, the structure is also referred to as the sigmoid sinus plate 34.
