Presentation

Right lower limb swelling and fever.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Female

Right lower limb swelling affecting superficial and deep soft tissues, including deep fascia and muscles. Inflammation of medial and posterior muscle compartments, with gas between them tracking along the vascular structures and extending to the obturator muscles.

Findings are consistent with necrotizing soft tissue infection (necrotizing fasciitis).

Post surgery changes in right lower limb secondary to hip disarticulation. Persistent gas in the deep soft tissue spaces.

The patient went to surgery (hip disarticulation) but unfortunately died 2 days after.
