Mandibular osteoradionecrosis

Presentation

Pain and swelling left mandible. Previous right tonsillar carcinoma with adjuvant chemoradiotherapy 10 years prior.

Patient Data

Age: 65 years
Gender: Female

OPG

x-ray

Moth eaten appearances of the body of the left mandible with mixed lucent-sclerotic appearance and minor cortical bone loss.  No fracture.

Case Discussion

The appearances and history are fitting with osteoradionecrosis.  It is a not uncommon complication from radiotherapy administration for head and neck malignancies.
