Hypertrophic pyloric stenosis

Presentation

Multiple weeks of vomiting with feeds that has acutely worsened over the past 1.5 weeks. During this time, infant has lost weight with increased appearance of somnolence.

Patient Data

Age: 50 days
Gender: Female

The pylorus is abnormally thickened and elongated with a length of 2 cm and a wall thickness of 0.4 cm. On cine images (not shown), little to no gastric contents were seen transversing the thickened pyloric channel.

Case Discussion

This is a case of hypertrophic pyloric stenosis as evidenced by a thickened pyloric wall and enlarged channel length. Following this ultrasound, the patient was evaluated by pediatric surgery. The patient underwent a pyloromyotomy, which the patient tolerated well.
