Presentation

Right flank pain and right lower abdominal pain for 2 days, no diarrhea, no dysuria, no nausea and no vomiting.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male
ultrasound

Ultrasound demonstrates a large, well-circumscribed hypoechoic & heterogeneous mass occupying almost the whole right kidney.

Mild internal vascularity is noted on the color Doppler evaluation.

No clear extrarenal invasion is noted. Right iliac fossa shows acute appendicitis.

Case Discussion

The patient was admitted with abdominal pain with suspected right renal colic or appendicitis. The right renal mass was noted as an incidental finding. A renal mass can be broadly divided into two broad categories:

  1. renal tumor

  2. renal pseudotumor

The patient was referred to the HMC for more investigations.
