Presentation
Mediastinal widening on x-ray.
Patient Data
CT scan shows a large arteriovenous malformation (AVM) on medial portion of right anterior segment that has the anterior segmental artery as feeding artery and the superior right pulmonary vein as draining vein. There is also another small AVMs on both inferior lobes.
Reconstructions showing the AVMs and the feeding artery and drainage vein of the biggest one.
Case Discussion
A pulmonary arteriovenous malformations is a rare vascular abnormality of the lung that can be multiple in about 1/3 of cases and has a recognized female predilection.
Is important to know that the connection between the venous and arterial system can lead to dyspnea due to right-to-left shunting, as well as embolic events due to paradoxical emboli.
