Right lower lobe collapse from inhaled tooth

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Trauma.

Endotracheal tube, bilateral chest tubes, and a central line noted.

A radiopaque foreign body representing a tooth in the right lower lobe bronchus with increased opacity and obscuration of the right heart border in keeping with a right middle lobe collapse.

Case Discussion

Inhaled foreign bodies may be complicated by hemoptysis, air trapping, post-obstructive collapse, pneumonia or bronchiectasis. Removal of the foreign body is usually performed via bronchoscopy.
