Patella tripartita with impingement

Presentation

Tripartite patella on left side with pain located over patella.

Nuclear medicine

Increased activity on the lateral aspect of the left patella and the smallest accessory osseous part of a tripartite patella, which is laterally located relative to the trochlea. The main part of the patella shows no increased activity.

Case Discussion

Images suggestive of impingement of accessory lateral ossicle of patella.

Pain associated with multipartite patella has been described in the context of trauma 1-3.
