Presentation

Progressive painless swelling of the left parotid region.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Male
mri

Well-defined solid-cystic mass of the left parotid gland measuring 46 x 42 x 38 mm. The cystic component shows a high signal on T1, low signal on T2 with areas of restricted diffusion peripherally and no enhancement on post-contrast sequences. The solid component shows an isosignal to the muscles on T1, heterogeneous signal on T2 with restricted diffusion and early enhancement and progressive wash-out within the tumor on the TIC (time–signal intensity curve).

no malignancy detected on the examinated sections

Case Discussion

MRI features of a solid cystic tumor of the left parotid gland.

The patient went to have complete resection of the tumor with a histopathological exam that confirms the diagnosis of Warthin tumor.
