Presentation
Presented with left abdominal pain. Clinicians suspected renal colic and a non-contrast CT was performed.
Patient Data
CT shows no ureteric stone, but does show a 5 cm cyst above the bladder with an associated tubular structure in the left adnexal region. Ovarian torsion (adnexal torsion) was suspected and pelvic ultrasound was advised.
US showed the cyst to be within the ovary and the tubular structure to represent a distended twisted vascular pedicle and fallopian tube. There was abnormal arterial flow within the ovary with absent diastolic flow.
Case Discussion
Adnexal torsion was confirmed at surgery and the ovary survived.
