Presentation
Severe right lower abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting.
Patient Data
The right iliac fossa region revealed an aperistaltic, non-compressible, fluid-filled, blind-ending tube measuring 8.1mm in outer diameter, consistent with an inflamed appendix.
Hyperechoic indurated fat is seen surrounding the appendix.
Mild peri appendiceal complex fluid collection is also seen.
Case Discussion
Acute appendicitis is an acute inflammation of the vermiform appendix as a result of obstruction of the appendiceal lumen.
The most common clinical presentation is moderate to severe periumbilical/right iliac fossa pain, vomiting and fever.
