Ameloblastoma

Case contributed by Jeremy Jones
Diagnosis certain
x-ray

There is a large lucent lesion exapnding the right ramus of the mandible. It is associated with the crown of the unerrupted right mandibular 3rd molar and has features most in keeping with an ameloblastoma or odontogenic keratocyst.

ct

The expansile lucnecy demonstated on the plain film is a soft tissue lesion that expands the mandible with associated thinning of the cortex which is preserved.  No periosteal reaction.  Features are still concerning for ameloblastoma and a biopsy is suggested.

Case Discussion

Ameloblastoma of the right mandible proven by biopsy. This agressive, malignant odontogenic (arising from teeth) tumor was resected and reconstruction with a fibular graft was performed.
