Presentation

Female presented at 18 weeks gestation, to confirm her previous reports mentioning a gross congenital anomaly. It took some sonographic demonstration to convince her about the situation.

Ultrasound demonstrates absence of skull and cerebral hemispheres, confirmed by 3D reconstruction in keeping of anencephaly.

Case Discussion

Ultrasound is an extremely important tool in the assessment of pregnancies. In this case of anencephaly, the features are striking and are not compatible with life. Patient was aborted, and anencephaly was confirmed post-abortus also.
