Canal of Nuck hernia containing ovary

Presentation

Right-sided inguinal swelling noticed by mother.

Patient Data

Age: 7 months
Gender: Female
ultrasound

There is a small defect (10mm) transmitting a hernial sac (3.5x1.7cm) seen at the right inguinal region, oriented obliquely towards labia majora.

This sac is containing intestinal loop with good motility and intact vascularity, as well as an ovoid structure with multiple small simple cysts likely representing the right ovary. On duplex study there is arterial vascular supply to this structure with reversed diastolic flow.

Case Discussion

The patient underwent surgery and the nature of contents and their viability were examined - the ovary in the sac was congested.
