  • there is an epimetadiaphyseal lytic lesion with inhomogeneous T2 hyperintensity

  • maximal tumor size is over 5 cm

  • sclerotic irregular margins without bone marrow edema

  • there is a little linear calcified tumor matrix

  • no cortical destruction or periosteal reaction

  • no paraossal soft tissue edema

  • rotator cuff tendons, biceps tendons, labrum are unremarkable

  • no joint effusion

Case Discussion

There is a chondrogenic tumor located predominantly in epimetaphysis of the humerus.

Sometimes it's difficult to make an unambiguous conclusion about the type of chondrogenic tumor.

Calcification pattern in this case is not specific for enchondroma or atypical cartilaginous tumor.

Absent bone marrow edema and large tumor size are not characteristic signs of the chondroblastoma.

All signs and characteristics of this lesion together are consistent with a chondrosarcoma, probably a clear-cell type.
