Mucopidermoid carcinoma of parotid gland

Presentation

Palpable and painful lump in left side of face.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Female

Situated in the inferior aspect of the left lobe of the parotid gland is a lesion that is predominantly T2 hypointense with a small region of hypersensitivity anteriorly, which may represent a cystic or necrotic component.

The ADC value is intermediate (lower than expected for pleomorphic adenoma but higher than expected for Warthin tumor or lymphoma), and there are irregular margins post-contrast enhancement.

Histopathology:

This shows a mucoepidermoid carcinoma with the features in keeping with intermediate grade. No perineural or lymphovascular invasion.
