Patterns of lung parenchymal disease on chest radiographs - a sport-themed pictorial
Presentation
Not applicable
The pictorial serves as a handy reminder of the 12 main patterns in which parenchymal lung disease and its differentials manifest on chest radiographs. Nine (9) of the patterns concern opacities, e.g. the diffuse airspace opacities represented by the cheering crowd, while the remaining three (3) concern lucencies e.g. the holes from bullet holes (bullseye shooting) representing multiple lucent defects.
Example cases and differentials
Case Discussion
Handy pictorials may help to categorize the main pattern of pathology when presented with a chest radiograph, thereby allowing consideration of potential differentials.
