Soft tissue hemangioma - face

Case contributed by Hidayatullah Hamidi
Diagnosis possible

Presentation

Left cheek swelling since childhood.

Patient Data

Age: 10 years
Gender: Female

There is evidence of a soft tissue density poorly enhancing mass lesion with phleboliths in the left cheek subcutaneous topography measuring 2.5 x 1.8 x 2.7 cm. No fat content lesion to suggest lipoma. No purely cystic nature to suggest cyst.
No extension to the underlying muscles or oral cavity is seen.

Case Discussion

The features are suggestive of subcutaneous congenital hemangioma.

Infantile hemangiomas show avid post contrast enhancement and do not have phleboliths, while congenital hemangiomas show poor enhancement and do have phleboliths (as in current case).
