Case Discussion

Genu varum in children is a common pediatric condition and often a cause of concern for parents.

However, most cases of genu varum before 2 years of age are physiologic and will progress to normal valgus within the first few years of life.

This pattern of progression can even be observed in children with excessive varus at birth (i.e. tibiofemoral angle ≥ 2 standard deviations of the mean), which will reach normal valgus with some delay compared to the general population. The red curve represents this in the graph (Song et al).
