Presentation

Episodes of memory loss over the last 6 months, currently undergoing a clinical investigation for dementia.

MRI demonstrates small punctate hyperintense foci on the lateral edge of the left hippocampus on diffusion-weighted imaging, with corresponding decreased ADC at the same location. There are no other pathological findings.

Case Discussion

The main importance of lesion detection in transient global amnesia (TGA) is to exclude urgent differential diagnoses, such as transient ischemic attack (TIA), seizures, and drug-induced amnesia.
