Presentation

Trauma from a fall on the left shoulder during rugby match action. Persistent pain at the acromioclavicular joint.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Male

Comparative of the clavicles

x-ray

Diastasis of the left acromioclavicular joint with elevation of the clavicle above the acromion. There are no fractures.

Acromioclavicular joint

ultrasound

Complete tear of the joint capsule and its reinforcing acromioclavicular ligament. Coraco clavicular ligaments are intact. The joint space is widened and the clavicle is elevated above the acromion. There's mild effusion in the joint space. The tendons of the rotator cuff and the long head tendon of the biceps brachii are normal.

Case Discussion

Treatment acromioclavicular joint injury with acromioclavicular joint dislocation, for types I, II, and III is conservative with analgesics, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and physiotherapy.
