Presentation
History of left renal stone managed with etracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy.
Patient Data
Several fragmented calcului are noted in the expected location of the left lower calyx. Several small calculi are lined up in the left upper ureter adjacent to the left ureteric stent, with a few other smaller calculi noted distally in the lower ureter.
Case Discussion
Steinstrasse [stīn′shtra-se] is the German word for "stone street" used to describe the collection of small fragmented calculi within the ureter, usually post extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) for urinary tract calculi.
The most common site of the column of stone fragments obstruction is the distal ureter, followed by proximal ureter, and mid ureter.
