Describe your findings
A large focal area of calcification is present superior to the greater tubercle in the subacromial space, most in keeping with rotator cuff calcific tendinopathy. The glenohumeral joint is congruent.
What rotator cuff tendons tend to be more affected by calcific tendinopathy?
Supraspinatus and the anterior portion of infraspinatus.
What treatment could you suggest?
Ultrasound-guided barbotage is a technique used to fenestrate and attempt to aspirate the calcification. In the acute phase, the calcification will be softer, and often the barbotage procedure will be more fruitful with a larger amount of aspirate achieved.
What is the usual type of calcium associated with calcific tendinopathy?
Calcium hydroxyapatite.
