Brachy (greek for short) therapy is a localized form of radiation therapy delivered through either the temporary of permanent insertion of beads emitting radiation from isotopes within the beads.

In this case, the short, refers to a short distance, as the therapy is targeted to a specific organ (in this case the prostate) to limit the collateral damage to normal tissue from radiation.
