Presentation
Throbbing pain in the midfoot during and after activity.
Patient Data
Approx 12 mm-sized triangular-shaped accessory ossicle is seen adjacent to the medial side of the navicular bone and connected by approx 1.8 mm thick cartilage - features suggested type 2 accessory navicular bone (connected to the navicular tuberosity layer of fibrocartilage).
Posterior tibialis tendon inserted in the accessory navicular bone. Marrow edema is seen in the accessory ossicle and navicular bone.
Case Discussion
20-year-old girl presented with throbbing pain in the midfoot during and after activity. On MRI marrow edema was seen in the accessory ossicle and the navicular bone. Clinical features and radiological findings suggested this is a case of accessory navicular syndrome.
