Presentation

History of a jerk to the left ankle a few days before the presentation. Complaining of Achilles region pain.

Patient Data

Age: 85 years
Gender: Male

Asymptomatic side

ultrasound

There is a complete tear of the Achilles tendon about 40 mm proximal to its insertion. The defect length is about 34 mm. The tendon distal to the defect shows a normal echopattern. The plantaris tendon is intact.

The asymptomatic side shows a normal Achilles tendon.

The first intraoperative photo shows a torn Achilles tendon. The second intraoperative photo shows the repaired Achilles tendon.

Case Discussion

The case shows an Achilles tendon tear in an elderly patient. Surgical repair of the tendon was done.
