Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Incidental finding during imaging following a motor vehicle accident. ACL reconstruction many years prior.

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Female

There are no acute fractures, no dislocations and no subluxations in a setting of recurrent trauma.

There is no suprapatellar hemarthrosis.

There is a prior ACL reconstruction with a femoral endobutton, and femoral and tibial tunnels.

There is a normally ossified fabella.

There are background degenerative changes.

Case Discussion

Features suggestive of a normal radiographic appearance of a previous ACL reconstruction.

The knee flexion in this instance is suboptimal and greater than 30o as evidenced by the inferior patella and compressed soft tissues. This makes drawing Blumensaat's line difficult and assessing the femoral tunnel on the lateral view is limited.

The graft alignment and position of the femoral endobutton on the frontal view suggest a likely adequate ACL reconstruction.

The absence of metallic interference screws suggests the utilization of bioabsorbable screws.
