Patient Data

A well-defined, rounded mass along the course of the vestibulocochlear nerve with an expansion of the left internal auditory canal elicits homogeneous high signal intensity in T2, intermediate in T1 VIBE, and FIESTA sequences with high enhancement post-contrast. There is no evidence of extra-canalicular extension.

Case Discussion

A vestibulocochlear schwannoma is a benign, usually slow-growing tumor that develops from the balance and hearing nerves supplying the inner ear. In this patient, the mass is big enough to manifest hearing loss on the left side.

High-resolution thin sequences are important to evaluate the small masses.
