Presentation

Abdominal pain.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Male
  • bowel wall thickening with multiple diverticula outpouching involving the descending and sigmoid colon

  • surrounding fat stranding and small air filled collection seen around the affected colon

  • narrowing / collapse of distal ileum proximal small bowel obstruction likely due to adhesion

  • also, Severe osteoarthritis of the left hip joint and L5/S1 disc degenerative disease noted

Case Discussion

Findings above are consistent with acute diverticulitis of descending and sigmoid colon with abscess formation.
