Presentation
History of migraines progressively getting worse in the last month. The pain was located on the right side, sometimes sharp, sometimes pressure behind the right eye.
Patient Data
Along the lateral superior aspect of the orbits rounded extraconal mass centered around the right lacrimal gland with peripheral and mild central heterogeneous enhancement.
There is an intermediate signal intensity lacrimal fossa mass on T1, hyperintense in T2 with heterogeneous enhancement post-contrast, and diffusion restriction of the peripherally enhancing component.
Final pathologic diagnosis: low grade adenocarcinoma of the lacrimal gland
Case Discussion
Tumors Originating from the lacrimal gland account for approximately 10% of orbital tumors.
Primary lacrimal gland tumors arising from epithelial cells account for 20% of all solid lacrimal gland masses.
Primary adenocarcinoma of the lacrimal gland is uncommon.
