Presentation
The patient was referred for renal tract investigation. Incidental finding of a clothing artifact.
Patient Data
There is an incidental finding of an unusual linear, tubular radiopaque foreign body projected within the pelvis.
There is mild fecal loading, the AXR otherwise normal and nonspecific.
Case Discussion
Aglets are small sheaths placed on the ends of drawstrings, cords, and shoelaces. They can be made of plastic or metal. They can be of a punched, inward fold, or lucent plastic-type. When made of a radiopaque material they can occasionally appear as clothing artifacts on imaging if not removed.
In this instance, it appeared as an intrapelvic foreign body. On further questioning, examination, and review of previous imaging, it was confirmed to be artifactual and overlying the pelvis from a drawstring from the patient's pyjamas. On magnification, one can easily see a multi-punched radiopaque aglet.
