Amiodarone hepatotoxicity

Case contributed by Ammar Haouimi
Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Microscopic hematuria in a cardiac patient on long-term amiodarone. Incidental finding on the CT urogram.

Patient Data

Age: 80 years
Gender: Female
ct

Diffuse increased hepatic attenuation.

Simple hepatic cysts with gallstones.

Left cortical renal cysts.

Normal collecting systems, ureters, and bladder with no urolithiasis.

Case Discussion

Diffuse increased hepatic attenuation is a non-specific finding; however, the clinical history of long-term amiodarone administration suggests amiodarone hepatotoxicity. It is often an incidental finding (as in this case) with no symptoms or signs of liver disease.
