Case Discussion

A case of a healing AIIS avulsion fracture injury based on the history of the precipitating incident a few months back. The young rugby player however continued playing through the pain over the period likely delaying his healing.

The AIIS is the origin of the direct head of the rectus femoris muscle which is elongated by hip extension and knee flexion. At the initiation of a kick or explosive sprinting there is abrupt concentric contraction which maximizes tensile strain.
