Age: 65 years
Gender: Female

An irregular opacity is noted at right apical zone.

An irregular 34 x 21 x 31mm spiculated mass lesion is noted in the apical segment of right upper lobe with areas of cavitataion. Rest of the lungs are clear.

Nuclear medicine

Soft tissue lesion of right upper lobe is FDG avid with a SUV value of 15.3.

No FDG avid mediastinal or hilar lymph nodes.

CT-guided biopsy

CT guided biopsy was performed by a18G 15cm co-axial core biopsy needle with the patient in prone position.

Case Discussion

Apical lesions are easy to miss, if not followed the standards of reporting accuracy.

Differential diagnosis for cavitating lesions is given by mnemonic CAVITY (mnemonic).

Histopathologically the lesion was confirmed to be a squamous cell carcinoma.
