Case Discussion
Arachnoid granulations are small protrusions of the arachnoid mater through the dura into the venous sinuses of the brain and allow cerebrospinal fluid to exit the subarachnoid space and enter the bloodstream. The largest granulations lie along the superior sagittal sinus then the transverse sinus in arranging manner of frequency
Smaller granulations are called villi, large calcified ones are referred to as pacchionian bodies. They appear as a filling defect in dural venous sinuses, which can be mistaken for dural venous thrombosis, however, it is seen in the non-contrast study (filling defects in the venous sinuses are assessed in the post-contrast phase).
