Atoll sign in COVID-19 pneumonia

Presentation

High grade fever, productive cough, chest pain, and shortness of breath.

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Female

There are multiple medium to large size patchy-nodular consolidations with thick and dense rim in both sides lungs' parenchyma. Note also pericardial fluid and mild bilateral pleural fluid. 

Case Discussion

The case illustrates the feature of Atoll sign or reversed halo sign in lungs of a patient suffering from COVID-19 pneumonia based on positive nasopharynx PCR test. This sign can be seen in other infections like mucormycosis and tuberculosis more in immunocompromised patients and is a classical finding in cryptogenic organizing pneumonia (COP).
