Avascular necrosis of the femoral heads

Presentation

Bilateral hip pain.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male

Serpentine line of a low signal on T1, double-line sign on STIR outlining necrotic areas of the femoral heads with surrounding bone marrow edema. No significant flattening of the upper articular surface or femoral head deformity. Mild joint effusion is noted bilaterally.

No evidence of secondary osteoarthritic changes.
