The MRI sequences demonstrate a bilateral and relatively symmetrical deep band parallel to the cortex simulating the double cortex sign. Its has the same signal to the cortical grey matter on all sequences. The overlying cortex appears normal.

MRI features of a band heterotopia also known as double cortex syndrome, affecting almost only women and characterized by a deep band of grey matter parallel to the cortex, with either normal or pachygyric overlying cerebral cortex.
