A band-like white matter changes in the subcortical region in both cerebral hemispheres that have the same signal intensity as the grey matter on all sequences.

T1 weighted images are more detailed than T2 weighted images.

Case Discussion

Grey matter heterotopia (GMH) can be classified according to its location, and secondarily on morphology and associated structural abnormalities.

Band heterotopia also known as "double cortex syndrome"  is a form of diffuse heterotopia in which bands of gray matter are interposed in the white matter beneath the cortex.

On MRI, the appearance of band heterotopia consists of a smoothly marginated layer of gray matter, coursing parallel from the overlying cortex showing the characteristic 3-layer (cerebral cortex separated from heterotopic grey matter by a band of white matter).
