Benign peripheral nerve sheath tumor (lumbar subcutaneous region)
Presentation
Complaining of left posterior lumbar region lump for the last three years. Gradually increasing in size without pain.
Patient Data
There is a well-defined lesion in the region of interest; measuring about 104 x 86 x 45 mm. It is located in the posterior lumbar region in the midline and the left paramedian location. The lesion is in the subcutaneous plane. It abuts skin and tip of the lumbar vertebral spinous process. It is separate from the muscle/ bone/ spinal canal.
The lesion shows hypoechoic heterogeneous echopattern with the presence of few cystic spaces. There is the presence of few lobulations and acoustic enhancement. Few arterial and venous flow signals are present in the lesion.
Case Discussion
Ultrasound shows an encapsulated solid subcutaneous lesion in an elderly male.
The surgical excision of the lesion was done. Histopathology and immunohistochemistry led to a final diagnosis of a benign peripheral nerve sheath tumor.
