Presentation
Left thigh deformity with difficulty in walking. History of left lower limb fracture.
Patient Data
Anterior bowing of the left femur with intact cortex and bent lower part of the intramedullary nail, in keeping with fracture malunion secondary to bent intramedullary nail.
There is focal cortical thickening with a subtle transverse lucency, suggestive of a stress fracture.
Anterior bowing of left femoral shaft secondary to bent intramedullary nail, resulting in fracture malunion.
Case Discussion
Intramedullary nailing is the treatment of choice in femoral shaft fractures. Bent intramedullary nail is a rare complication that resulted in fracture malunion.
The presence of a stress fracture at the lateral aspect of mid-shaft femur likely occurred due to abnormal stress secondary to malunion.
